Violent standoffs between angry motorists in one of Southend's most crowded areas should soon be a thing of the past, following plans to be considered by councillors on Wednesday.
The traffic and parking committee will be asked to approve proposals that would create a number of new one-way streets in Westborough ward.
Independent councillor for Westborough ward, Martin Terry, said residents had been asking for the changes for a long time.
He said: "With the density of parking and traffic there is in the area, there have been a number of difficult incidents between motorists.
"There have been occasions when there have been two cars going along these side roads in opposite directions and there is a standoff, with neither being prepared to move.
"There have even been occasions when it has led to violence and I am delighted that the committee is now going to get things moving."
Under the proposals, one-way traffic would be introduced in Wenham Drive, Silverdale Avenue and MacDonald Avenue between their junctions with Fairfax Drive and Westborough Road.
