A man was taken to hospital with suspected back and arm injuries after falling from scaffolding.
Health and safety officers are investigating the accident, which happened at the maltings in Mistley yesterday morning
Police cordoned off High Street for several hours while emergency crews dealt with the situation.
A 20-year-old man is believed to have fallen from scaffolding and on to a roof void on the maltings building, which is currently being turned into flats.
He was working as a scaffolder contracted to Carter RG, the firm developing the site.
The casualty was rescued by firefighters using an aerial ladder platform and placed in the care of paramedics, who took him by ambulance to Colchester General Hospital.
