Dozens of residents from flats neighbouring the proposed Kursaal multistorey car park turned out in force to protest against the plans.
About 40 residents from Marks Court and the nearby Woodgrange and Beresford estates drew beeps of support from passing motorists last night as they waved banners and placards and voiced their disapproval of the proposed scheme.
Woodgrange residents have already staged a demonstration against the car park, while Marks Court residents - some of whom would live just metres away from the car park if it were built - have formed an anti-car park campaign group.
Marks Court residents' leader Hanan Elmileik said the building would be about the same height as her block of flats, would block light into the windows and would overlook the gardens.
Dr Elmileik said: "We are saying no to more congestion, no to more pollution, no to more traffic and no to this terrible proposal."
