A fine day of weather saw a bowls competition won by club chairman Joe Wilks' team from the one led by Maureen Roberts (Drums).
There were also bowling demonstrations, one attended by Southend mayor Roger Weaver and wife Verena, the mayoress, and another highlight was a visit from two top players from Potters, Carol Ashby and Billy Jackson.
They took on under-25s national finalists Aaron Lyons, from the host club, and Clockhouse's Rebecca Smith in a demonstration match which the youngsters won by a single shot.
Potters' visitors proved a big attraction on the day and put up a prize of a weekend break at Potters during their bowls special and this was won by Ken Griffiths of the Benfleet club.
Of the cash raised, £2,225 will go to prostrate cancer research and an equal amount towards breast cancer screening.
The £3,500 raised by the club themselves was boosted by a donation of £1,000 from News International.
