Danny Hunt has been given an added incentive to successfully defend his English lightweight title - the fight is also being used as an eliminator for the British crown.

The Leigh lightweight faces Salford's Lee Meager at the ExCel centre in London's Docklands on October 10 and the 23-year-old is determined to win and move up a level.

"I have been training hard for this fight and now I have the added incentive of knowing I will have a chance of going for the British title if I'm successful," said Hunt, ranked number six in Britain.

"I have watched him on the BBC a few times so I know he is tough, strong and can box a bit.

"It will be a hard fight but the British Boxing Board of Control have made him my mandatory challenger because it is an eliminator for the British title."

The winner will face either Graham Earl or Steve Murray for the British title.

Meager, 26, is currently ranked 10th in Britain and fights under the nickname Macho Man. He lived up to the tagline by bragging on television that he would fight Hunt at 12noon and Graham Earl at 3pm.

Hunt, who will be defending his title for a second time, knows Meager has only been beaten once in 17 professional fights but is not bothered by the northerner's boasts.

"Because it's the eliminator for the British championship we are both hungry and want to knock each other out," said Hunt. "He says he will beat me but talk is cheap. I let my fighting do the talking."
