Two well-taken goals by Marlon Harewood put West Ham in the second round of the Carling Cup with a 2-0 victory over Southend.
Harewood scored first after 11 minutes following a 50-yard run from Nigel Reo-Coker and struck again in the final minute to make the game safe.
Mark Bentley and Kevin Maher missed good chances for the Shrimpers.

Craig Fagan beat defender David Bird and scored from an acute angle on 13 minutes. On the hour Gavin Johnson finished off a one-touch move from close range to make in 2-0 before Martin Devaney pulled one back for Cheltenham.
Substitute Tommy Miller eased Ipswich Town's nerves in their match at Portman Road against Brentford with a powerful 75th-minute finish from close range after good work from Darren Bent.
Ian Westlake scored deep into injury time, heading in a long ball from keeper Lewis Price to make the final score 2-0.
