MP John Baron has labelled the Human Rights Act a "sham".
Mr Baron, the Conservative MP for Billericay and District, spoke out after his colleague Tory shadow Home Secretary David Davis called for a detailed review of the Act, which became UK law in 2000.
Based on the European Convention on Human Rights, the act gives British citizens the right to life, privacy and information among its far-reaching powers.
Now, Mr Baron has backed his call to review and, if necessary, repeal the act.
He said: "I welcome this review because the Human Rights Act is a sham. The act has forced on British law a European version of justice which is alien to us. It is more concerned about the rights of the few than the rights of the majority."
