Two teenage German students were assaulted by a group of teenage girls while they waited in Clacton town centre to be collected by their host.
Elaine Seymour, spokesman for Clacton police, said a group of girls, aged about 16, approached and became very abusive to the students in Pier Avenue.
She said: "One of the students sustained minor injuries when she was hit by a beer bottle and another was also injured during the altercation."
The first attacker is described as about 16 years old and of big build with light brown curly hair.
The second girl was also aged about 16. She was of stocky build with long blonde hair and was wearing a baseball cap and jogging bottoms, which showed boxer shorts she was wearing.
The third girl was about 15 years old. She was skinny and had long blonde hair. She was wearing a yellow tank top, jeans and flip flops.
