Decathlete Dean Macey's dream of a medal has almost ended after a disappointing performance in the pole vault.
The Canvey Islander began the eighth event of the competition in fourth place overall but could only manage a leap of 4.40m, 40cm below his personal best.
Third-placed Bryan Clay cleared 4.90m and with just the javelin and 1500m remaining, only an injury to the American would realistically give Macey the chance of gaining a medal.
