A cash-strapped council is bringing in a team of lawn-mooers to trim their grass-cutting bills.
Grass-guzzling cows are making a comeback at Gosbecks archeological park in Colchester to keep the undergrowth under control.
The money-saving munchers are expected to cut council bills by £3,000 a year.
Cattle used to graze on the fields - once the site of a Roman temple and theatre.
But cows were taken off the fields after deadly ragwort plants started to spread on the site.
Colchester Council has now cleared the poisonous weeds - which can be fatal to cattle and horses if they eat it.
The council now hopes to find a herd of cattle to move on to the land.
