Store opening - Mayor and mayoress of Colchester John and Shelagh Bouckley receive a £500 cheque for their charity from shop manager Wendy Swift, helped by Lisa Nash, left, and Shirley Tibbs Picture: ADRIAN RUSHTON
The new Colchester Tesco Express convenience store opened yesterday in St Christopher's Road, St John's, has a sign in the window welcoming customers to Parson's Heath Tesco Express.
And homeowners are said to be outraged that their up-market neighbourhood has been confused with the area on the other side of the railway tracks.
One resident said: "This hasn't gone down very well at all the St John's estate considers itself very separate from Parson's Heath!"
Colchester councillors have even received complaints from electors unhappy about the blurring of boundaries.
But at a recent Parson's Heath Residents' Association meeting, amused members said they would be happy to welcome neighbours in St Christopher's Road to the fold.
No-one from Tesco who knew why the name had been chosen was available for comment.
