A community arts centre looks set to get the go-ahead after years of campaigning.
The Engine Shed scheme would see a former goods shed at Wivenhoe Rail Station car park converted into an arts centre offering a performance space, rehearsal rooms and gallery space.
Colchester Council planning officers have recommended to councillors that the proposed renovations to the Engine Shed site be supported.
The plans include large scale renovation to the building which is next to Wivenhoe train station.
Wivenhoe Town Council has submitted the application, and it has agreed a 999-year lease with the rail property company for a peppercorn sum, subject to it being used for community activities.
The proposals had attracted concern from residents in newly-built homes near the train station, over traffic and noise.
However,Wivenhoe Town Council have assured planners that there would be strict conditions imposed on the centre so as it would not upset the neighbours.
