Two crash victims who were at first thought to have suffered minor injuries are now in life-threatening conditions.
The two men, hurt in separate collisions in Great Bromley and Tiptree, have both been taken to London hospitals for treatment.
Police are renewing appeals for witnesses and would like to hear from anyone who saw what happened in either crash.
The first victim, a 47-year-old man from Tiptree, was injured when he fell from his wheelchair during a collision with a Toyota Hilux.
It happened at about 11.40am on Friday, August 13, near the junction of Maldon Road and Church Road in Tiptree.
A second man, a 76-year-old from Colchester, was injured when his Kia car was involved in a collision with a Rover 620.
That crash happened at about midday on Sunday, August 15, on the A120 at Great Bromley.
Witnesses should call Stanway road policing unit on 01206 762512.
