It's a good job the Mercury Music Prize isn't decided on vocal talent alone.
If so, Amy Winehouse would probably have walked off with it long ago.
She quite possibly has one of the best voices in the UK right now.
The singer is currently in the running for the prize following the release of her debut album - Frank.
A sultry blues and jazz mix is the best way to describe Winehouse, but that may just be scratching the surface.
Any singer who sees Jimi Hendrix as one of their influences is likely to bring something a little edgy to their performance.
With a full backing band including brass section there's little to halt Winehouse who at times appears to quite simply spit the lyrics at her audience such is the power of her voice.
The performance has many in the JJB riveted and having made a lasting impression she's confident enough to leave the stage before the end of her last song leaving the band to take the applause.
