Extra police patrols could be made in a trouble hot-spot - if the need is great enough.
Complaints for Clayton Road, Ramsey, have increased recently and led to calls from the parish council for action.
Sgt Peter Wood, of Harwich police, said that community support officers (CSOs) were available if necessary.
He urged residents to produce evidence of any crimes being committed there.
Sgt Wood was responding to Ramsey and Parkeston parish councillor John Brown, who described Clayton Road as a "thugs area".
Mr Brown said: "Youths congregate and make a nuisance - it's getting worse and the place is full of hooligans."
He claimed to have video evidence of a 13-year-old being beaten up in the road by a gang of youths.
Sgt Wood said: "We're very much aware of the problems of anti-social behaviour in Clayton Road and are dealing with it as and when it happens."
