A driver had a lucky escape after his car caught fire on the A12.
Firefighters from Chelmsford attended the incident on the Colchester-bound carriageway between the Chelmsford and Hatfield Peverel slip roads.
Smoke was seen coming from the bonnet of the Astra car at 11.30am yesterday. The driver pulled over and a lorry driver who saw the smoke also pulled over and used his extinguisher to fight the fire.
The car driver, who was on his way to Suffolk, was unhurt but shocked by the incident.
