Chelmsford Athletic Club's youngsters put in a good showing in the season's final league match of the Eastern Youth Athletes campaign to split the leading two teams in the table.
With 375 points Bedford completed the season with an unbeaten record but Chelmsford with 317 nipped in to beat Herts Phoenix (303) who finished runners-up to Bedford. Luton (167) also contested this meeting at Melbourne Park.
By virtue of this result Chelmsford placed sixth in the table to clinch the last place in the season's final at Bedford next month.
Elise Walker picked up a double in the Under 13 girls sprints of 100 and 200 metres and partnered with Megan Gayle in the 100 and Alex Lusty (200) full points were taken.
Alex also won the long jump and although Natasha Davis suffered a rare defeat in the hurdles she gained success in the shot putt. The relay gave the home team a further win.
At under 15 level Laura Condrun kept up her winning ways, having a comfortable margin in the 1500 metres in which Amanda Adams won the 'B' string. Kate Hartigan won the shot putt.
In the Under 17's Alex Devenish and Gemma Hawkins took all the honours in the sprints, Gemma also adding the long jump to her list.
Rebecca French showed her multi-event talents by winning the hurdles, high jump and shot putt.
Full points came from the javelin via Emma Smith and Alise Hunter and Katrina Bassick won the 1500 metres.
Apart from winning the relay the under 13 year boys picked up maximum points in six of the nine events on the programme.
Harry McQueen and Gary Enstone (100 and 200), Matt Knight and Sam Bailey (hurdles and high jump), James Woodley and Peter Hawkins (1500) and then McQueen and Bailey completed the role of honour in the shot With the under 15's, and Lewis Taylor was in a class of his own as he won the shot putt and discus.
Liam Colins (200) and Mark Hunt (400) were also winners in this group.
In the Under 17 boys, Luke Keteleers and Martyn Papprill led the hurdlers home, Mark Woodley and Dan Adams also had this distinction in the 1500 metres.
