A busy superstore is set to expand by the size of about three Olympic swimming pools after approval by Southend planners.

Members of the council's development control committee raised no objections to the 2,000sq m expansion of the Tesco store in Prince Avenue, Westcliff.

It means the shop will increase by a third and there will be an extra 84 parking spaces.

There was one objection from a local resident who complained there would be increase noise and fume pollution from the car park and into their gardens.

However, Tesco has promised to investigate putting up acoustic fencing to minimise the effect.
