Rochford residents can follow the progress of planning applications they have an interest in through the world wide web.
The district council has launched a new feature called Public Access on its website, which can be found at www.rochford.gov.uk.
This provides a direct link to information about planning applications awaiting decisions and historic applications dating back to 1994.
Deputy chairman of the council Peter Webster said: "I am all in favour of this. I think planning is of particular importance to residents and they should be given as much information as possible."
