Parents are being warned to be vigilant after a man in a white car stopped an 11-year-old boy three times in a week to offer him a lift.
Each incident happened in the Alresford area.
The boy told his mother what had happened and she then raised the alarm and contacted the police.
The man is described as about 40-years-old. He had long mousey-coloured hair and was of medium build.
Police community support officer Carl Booth said: "We don't want parents to panic. However, we would advise them to ensure their children are aware of the dangers of strangers offering them lifts."
Anyone with information about this or similar incidents should contact police at Clacton on 01255 221312.
