Essex students were today celebrating the best ever results at A-levels, with pass rates once again on the up.

A result! - Students at Colchester Sixth Form College with their A-level results today.

Across the country, early indications were that pass rates have increased by 0.6 per cent to 96 per cent.

Colchester Sixth Form College has seen 100 per cent pass rates in 30 subjects, including English, computing, economics, French, art, German, politics, history, further maths and Spanish.

Personal successes include Emily Holden, of Colchester, who achieved A grades in French, history, chemistry, geology, Spanish and critical thinking.

Mark Mills, of Mistley, achieved top grades in English, law, economics, business studies, PE and critical thinking.

Twins Keira and Emma Jamison, of Colchester, had nine A grades between them and will now both study at Cambridge University. Keira will study English at New Hall and Emma will study modern and medieval languages at Fitzwilliam.

And at Colchester County High School for Girls a set of identical twins have achieved 11 grade As between them one with six As, and one with five As.

All 102 students in the year group at the school passed every exam, each with a minimum of three A-levels.

Of the exam entries, 63.5 per cent resulted in a grade A, and 90.5 per cent of entries resulted in a grade A or B.

Students at Clacton County High School broke previous records in terms of their average points score and the number of subjects passed.

Students scored an impressive 95 per cent pass rate, with all students passing in at least two subjects and 43 per cent gaining four or more A levels.

At Tendring Technology College, all students applying for a university place were successful.

Of the 77 students who sat A-levels at the Frinton sixth form college, 38 per cent obtained A or B grades.
