Commuters faced a lengthy journey to work this morning after heavy rain throughout the night caused chaos to the One railway line.

A statement on One's website said train services at London Liverpool Street were being disrupted due to flooding in the Maryland area of the capital.

It added engineers were working as fast as possible to restore services to normal.

However, short notice alterations, cancellations and delays of up to 40 minutes could be expected by commuters and other travellers today.

One commuter said no services were running in to the city during the rush hour.

Passengers were being told not to start their journeys unless they were vital.
