Smashed glass bottles are being left on a playing field used by young children.
Police have issued warnings to parents to keep a close eye on what their youngsters are doing following a spate of complaints from residents in a Maldon road.
Underage drinking and anti-social behaviour have led to an increase in calls to Maldon police by local people asking for something to be done about the yobs who congregate on the green in Longship Way.
A police spokesman said: "Many of the complaints relate to the amount of litter left, in particular glass bottles, which get smashed and become a hazard to toddlers who use the green during the daytime."
Police community support officer (PSCO) Maryann Langford has been trying to encourage parents to keep a closer watch on what their children are up to.
The spokesman said most of the road's residents were more than happy for teenagers and young people to gather on the green as it is a relatively safe and visible meeting place.
In Great Notley, a plan has been put foward for a £5,500 shelter for youngsters to meet on Notley Green.
The structure will include solar panels to power its lighting and will be for the sole use of the village's youngsters.
