Maldon Town secured their first point in the Southern League eastern division with a 0-0 draw at Wivenhoe Town last night, but it was an open game either side could have won.
Both Dragons boss Steve Pitt and Maldon chief Colin Wallington believed they should have walked away with maximum points, and they were justified in their argument.
Wivenhoe looked dangerous throughout the first half and limited Maldon to only fleeting chances on goal.
The Dragons threatened through Michael Brothers and the striker had a goal ruled-out on 22 minutes for offside after Tabani Mabvura had delivered a quick ball to the far post for him to follow up.
Brothers' team-mate Sean Caton also had an opportunity to open the scoring with five minutes to go in the first half.
The midfielder was unmarked when he struck wide from the six-yard box after Mabvura's cross.
In the second half Maldon dominated the chances and were able to open up the home side's defence following the loss of Dragons' defender Jack Wignall at the end of the first half.
Wignall had been solid in the back three and his absence was quickly noticed as Nicky Simpson charged down the centre.
However, he was unable to beat Dragons keeper Ollie Sanders who found himself facing, and winning, several one-on-one situations over the course of the 90 minutes.
