Heavy rain last night kept fire crews from Braintree busy with a house flooded and cars stuck in water.
At 2.37am today they went to a flooded house in Coldnailhurst Avenue in Braintree and managed to divert the water within about 30 minutes by using sandbags.
Maud Williams, 81, said there was not much damage to her belongings but it was the second time in six weeks she had suffered flooding from heavy rain.
Her daughter, Ann Root, who lives next door but escaped any flooding to her property, said: "We were sweeping it out and bailing it out, but there was so much."
They said they had been up most of the night before finishing clearing up the mess at about 3.30am.
Fire crews also had to rescue a woman from her car which had become stuck in Bulford Mill Lane, Black Notley, at 6.45am.
