Southend United striker Jim Corbett is determined to prove a point to boss Steve Tilson tonight as the Shrimpers begin their reserve team season with a trip to Brighton.
The 24-year-old former Blackburn Rovers forward has yet to figure in the Seasiders first team squad during the current campaign.
But, following the Seasiders shot-shy start to life in League Two, Corbett is now hoping to help Blues get back on track.
"It will be nice to play again because it's been a while since I've got a game," he said.
"I haven't played since our last pre-season match at Grays in fact so I'm looking forward to getting back out there and hopefully we can get a good result."
Corbett is also hoping to produce a pleasing individual performance but, rather surprisingly, he had been expecting his recent omission from the Roots Hall senior side.
"I did OK during pre-season but I haven't really been that surprised that I've been left out so far," he said.
"The manager has to pick the team he thinks is his best and so far that hasn't included me.
"Obviously that's been frustrating but I'll keep working hard and, when I get a chance, it's up to me to take it and make sure I stay in the side."
