Commuters worrying that no-parking zones may be created around South Woodham Ferrers railway station were today been given respite from their fears.

Investigations are being carried out into the possibility of banning drivers from leaving their cars in nearby residential roads after the idea was brought up at a Chelmsford Council meeting.

But a spokeswoman for the council said even if the suggestion comes comes about, it would be a long time before it happened.

She said: "It's being looked into because whenever an idea is put forward we try to find out about the viability.

"But it is in the earliest possible stages. It would be an extremely long and drawn-out process to get it put into place."

She said residents have complained in the past about commuters parking in the streets instead of using the Hullbridge Road station car park, so restrictive parking measures would probably be well supported by local people.
