A new initiative is being set up in a bid to help keep youngsters across Tendring occupied during the summer holiday.
The idea has come from the Clacton and Coastal District Youth Council and will be run in the week before most pupils return to school.
A summer camp is being staged at Thorrington from August 31 to September 2.
Stephen Mayzes, leader of the council, said it was aimed at eight to 13-year-olds and it was hoped to give them the experience of sleeping under canvas, teach them how to cook over an open fire and how to work as a team.
He said: "Generally we want them to be able to make new friends and have fun.
"There will be a whole range of activities on offer such as orienteering, bridge building, an assault course, as well as workshops on first aid, food and nutrition and survival skills.
"It will be a good experience for younger children to learn social skills, teambuilding, trust and self-achievement."
Mr Mayzes said it was a new idea put forward by the youth council itself and he hopes it proves popular so that it could be staged again.
