Jonathan James top scored for Old Southendian but still ended up on the losing side.
James had a knock of 60 as the Old Boys made 202-9 from their 52 overs at Southchurch Park.
But the innings was not a testing enough target for Old Brentwoods as they won by six wickets.
J Watkins hit 80 for the visitors as they won with 203-4 to pick up 18 points.
Old Southendian collected nine points and are in ninth place, although they are well clear of bottom club Ongar.
The Old Boys are the lowest placed of the four south-east Essex teams in the division, but the table is so tight that a win against Benfleet on Saturday could launch them out of the basement zone.
