Five terrace houses could be built on the land of a former motor repair garage if a scheme is given the go-ahead.
Sovereign Country Homes has applied to Maldon District Council to build the five new homes and garages on the site of former Hazeleigh Garage in Burnham Road, Hazeleigh, near Maldon.
However, the plan has already come up against opposition with both Woodham Mortimer and Hazeleigh Parish Council objecting to the scheme.
In addition, 14 letters of objection have been received by the district council.
The parish councils feel extra traffic would be generated and the new homes would not be in keeping with the surrounding houses. The garage is in the process of being demolished.
Planning officers have recommended the application be refused.
The matter will be discussed at the North-Western Area Planning Committee next Monday.
