Witham's James Gibson finished a disappointing sixth in the 100m breaststroke final at the Olympics in Athens.
Gibson, 24, had reached Sunday's final by finishing joint second in his semi-final with a time of 1:01.07 seeing him 0.8 seconds behind Japan's Kosuke Kitajima.
Kitajima had set a new Olympic record of 1:00.03 in his morning heat which he won ahead of Gibson.
