Dozens of children were given a choice of digital, Polaroid or disposable cameras, in Priory Park, Southend.
They were then sent away to find squidgy, stunning, crazy or cute scenes to photograph.
One of the organisers, Janice Lyons said: "Some captured newts and other wildlife, while others preferred things like children playing."
The competition was one of a variety of activities at a funday, organised by Southend Youth and Connections Service.
Children were also shown how to play drums and guitars and taught various circus skills.
