Just how much difference a year can make in soccer is amply illustrated by Billericay Town.

Twelve months ago the New Lodge side were embarking on what proved to be a disappointing first term under new manager - Justin Edinburgh.

But a breath of fresh air arrived in January when Steve Kent took over as chairman, not only carrying out much-needed off the field improvements but also providing Edinburgh with the cash to bring in quality players.

Ex-Spurs star Edinburgh has certainly done that in abundance as he bids to rise from the new look Ryman Premier at the first attempt.

Only half-a-dozen of last season's squad remain and those he has brought in include ex-QPR striker Bradley Allen and Southend United youngsters David McSweeney and Danny Kerrigan.

There looks to be quality throughout the squad, which has deliberately been set at 18 as no reserve side is being run.

The club going full time has allowed outstanding youngsters formerly with Football League clubs to try and continue their soccer careers with the New Lodge side.

Edinburgh, who sees his side start at old rivals Heybridge tomorrow, insists: "I want us to be challenging at the top right from the start - and to that end I'd love some reward in our first game."
