Passengers were held up for half an hour after a lorry ploughed into the railway bridge at Vange.
The incident happened at 10.30am yesterday when the lorry crashed into the bridge and an assessment had to be carried out before services could run normally again.
The driver of the lorry was taken to hospital.
Trains to and from Pitsea were delayed for about 30 minutes as the bridge was assessed for any structural damage. There was no extensive damage.
All services between Pitsea and Upminster were suspended for half an hour.
There were no trains running between Pitsea and Upminster via Basildon, but there were still services from Pitsea to Upminster via Grays and Pitsea to Fenchurch Street via Grays.
