Ambitious plans for a motel, pub and function suite have been submitted to Castle Point Council, sparking fears it could cause havoc on the surrounding roads.
Plans for the pub and motel development at Sadlers Farm roundabout on the A13 at Benfleet have been submitted by the Oysterfleet Hotel, which currently has a site on Canvey.
The application is for a pub with function suite, restaurant and 60-bedroom motel on land adjacent to the notorious traffic blackspot on the eastern side of Canvey Way - the main access route on to the island.
Castle Point Council highways and leisure chairman Ray Howard said he would be calling for a traffic impact study.
