Residents are protesting over plans to build a swathe of new homes in their quiet neighbourhood which they fear would create a "ghetto-like" atmosphere.
Two applications have been lodged with Rochford District Council to construct a mix of houses and flats on open land, off Daws Heath Road and Wyburns Avenue East, in Rayleigh.
Residents fear the development would cause congestion from increased traffic and create sewage and water problems.
