Basildon's Northlands Park lake continues to produce excellent carp with a cracking common of 26lb for angler Mark Smith.

Carp king - Colin Bannell proudly shows off a mirror

He fished the western bank of the road lake and his big fish fell to a homemade boilie, coming just a few hours after he had netted a smaller 17lb common.

Simon Tyrell had an evening session at the road lake and took a personal best mirror carp of 23lb 8oz, which fell to a halibut pellet fished in the near margins.

Floater specialist Mick Cook paid two short visits to the venue.

His first trip produced a common of 18lb 8oz from the road lake on a dog biscuit. And a couple of evenings later Cook returned to the same spot to capture a cracking 22lb mirror.

Surface baits have also been taking carp across town at Gloucester Park, with Ian Pike netting 17 fish in a single session.

He fished the cockle bank and fed mixer baits throughout his session to keep the fish interested. And once they started feeding comfortably, Pike caught a number of double figure specimens.

Chris Johnson fished the lake's tench point to include a 20lb common in a multiple fish haul using strawberry fishmeal boilies. He landed more than 20 carp during one night of his session.

Susan Scholes has only been fishing for about three weeks, but already has a 15lb mirror to her credit after an evening session at Gloucester Park. She accompanied her husband Mick where they fished a swim by the incoming sluice.

Regular Wayne Hunter fished a three hour after work session at the venue's cockle bank to land four carp totalling 50 pounds between them. Luncheon meat float fished at close range saw Hunter net carp of 8lb, 10lb, 14lb and 18lb. He was accompanied by first time visitor Richard Chambers who took a carp of 10lb.

Billericay youngster Colin Bannell, 13, hooked a 16lb mirror carp from the grass bank at Billericay's Lake Meadows.

He tempted the big carp with a dog biscuit bait and a few days later the teenager was back at the lake to land a specimen of 14lb.
