A large office block is to be demolished as part of a multi-million pound blueprint to breathe new life into the heart of Southend.
It will provide affordable flats to lure young professionals like teachers and nurses to the town.
Carby House a decaying seven-storey building in Victoria Avenue, is set to be knocked down even before planning permission is granted for a major redevelopment on the site.
Southend Council is being asked to approve the demolition of Carby House and the removal of all internal fittings from neighbouring Heath House.
The two blocks are to be redeveloped with 440 flats.
