Castle Point MP Bob Spink has endorsed a series of policies to restore confidence in speed limits.
The proposals, announced by the Conservative party, aim to tackle the controversial issue of speed cameras which they claim are being used to generate income from the motorist rather than improve road safety.
The Tories have outlined ways dangerous driving can be reduced, without penalising law-abiding drivers.
Mr Spink said: "It is time to end the war on the motorist and start standing up for the rights and interests of law-abiding drivers.
"Government policy at the moment is more interested in grabbing ever more money from people's pockets, such as via poorly-placed 'cash cameras', rather than addressing the real menace of dangerous driving."
The proposed policies include:
Launching a review of all speed limits
Abolishing Safety Camera Partnerships
Concentrating on criminals in cars rather than on cameras
Clamping down on uninsured drivers and tackling antisocial behaviour
Audit the position of every camera location
