A couple were today mourning the loss of their son who died after getting into difficulties while swimming in the sea at Westcliff.
Kevin Love, 38, of Meteor Road, Westcliff, was pulled out of the water by a passer-by who spotted him off Western Esplanade on Sunday evening.
Mr Love's identity was confirmed today by his father Alan who lives in The Dale, Benfleet.
A post mortem examination is due to be carried out tomorrow.
However, the cause of Mr Love's death may not be known until the results of routine toxicology tests have been completed in about six weeks.
An inquest will be held into his death unless it is found he died of natural causes.
