Hard-of-hearing Maldon residents are missing out on a valuable service, it has been claimed.
Every month, volunteers from the Hearing Help Essex charity are on hand in the town to help residents with their hearing but often no-one turns up.
Volunteer Betty Chittenden said: "We know there are lots of people who have problems with their hearing and their hearing aids. We can help them with cleaning and re-tubing their hearing aid, which needs to be done regularly to make them work properly.
"However, many people are still travelling to St John's Hospital, Chelmsford, to get this done. We do not think many people know there is a similar service on their doorstep and they could save themselves a long journey."
The free service is available on the second Monday of each month, from 10am to noon, at the Maldon Clinic, Wantz Chase
