A booming south Essex boatyard is planning to improve its facilities and get rid of unsightly temporary buildings that have marred its site for some time.

Essex Boatyards, based at the Paglesham Boat Yard in Waterside Road, has applied to Rochford District Council to build a new three-storey building.

It will include offices, staff canteen, toilets, changing rooms and a viewing balcony.

Director James Barke said because of the growing interest in leisure boating, the yard was becoming increasingly busy.

He added: "We want to consolidate our existing numerous buildings into one new centre."
