A motorcyclist who crashed into a telegraph pole in Hullbridge last night has become the 19th biker to die on Essex roads this year.
The man, thought to be in his thirties, was riding his red and white Honda bike along Hullbridge Road towards Rayleigh, near Lubbards Farm, when he veered of the road shortly before 6pm.
An ambulance and rapid response vehicle crew tried unsuccessfully to revive the man, before taking him to Southend Hospital.
He suffered internal injuries and was declared dead soon after arrival.
Ambulanceman Richard Mackie said: "His heart had stopped by the time we arrived and we tried to get it working again but this wasn't possible."
Police investigating the crash said the cause of the accident is unclear.
Anyone who saw the accident, or the motorbike travelling along Hullbridge Road, has been asked to call PC Teen Naiman on 01268 798122.
