A senior fire officer has warned yobs attacking fire engines in Thurrock they are putting people's lives at risk.
Orsett station commander Dave Tayler has spoken out about the problems caused by the attacks after the latest incident on Saturday night, when a youth hurled a golf club that hit the roof of a fire engine.
Firefighters were on their way to a blaze in Tilbury when the iron club struck the roof of the vehicle as they drove through Chadwell St Mary, on the A128.
Mr Tayler said the numerous attacks were "detracting from the service" they aimed to give, adding it was only a matter of time before someone was seriously or fatally injured.
He said: "If the golf club had hit a window and there had been an oncoming vehicle or pedestrian nearby, the possible outcomes are endless. Needless to say, it may have led to a number of people being seriously hurt or even worse.
"This matter has now been placed in the hands of Thurrock Police.
"I urge those who want a safer Thurrock to report these incidents to the police either directly or using the incident diaries provided by Thurrock Police."
Anyone waning to use the incident diaries can remain anonymous. Residents can also call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 or Thurrock Police on 01375 391212.
