Children erupting into tantrums down the shopping aisle could soon be a thing of the past at a Pitsea superstore.

Parents who regularly shop at Tesco Extra can hardly wait for the introduction of the revolutionary "Tantrum Tamer" trolley.

Tesco bosses are now designing a specialised trolley with built-in DVDs, CDs and educational games to keep kids amused.

The move comes after more than 84 per cent of 3,000 parents surveyed nation-wide said they needed help keeping their children amused while shopping.

Mum-of-three Kim Hawkes, 29, of Little Lullaway, Laindon - who often shops at the Pitsea store with her children Darius, nine, Anneliese, four, and Eleanor, three - thinks the idea is a winner.

She said: "What a really great idea. It takes a long time to get around the shop when I'm with the children, this could be just the thing to keep their minds focused."

Jonathan Church, head of public relations at Tesco, said: "We will be asking customers for feedback on this.

"The trolley could have DVDs, CDs and educational activities such as spelling and maths games attached to it, which would also help keep children busy."
