The results of a survey carried out by Mid Essex Hospitals Trust have shown that most patients rate the care they receive as very good.
The survey sought the views of inpatients, including young hospital patients aged under 18.
A total of 469 young patients and 539 adult patients responded to the detailed survey which asked for their views on their experiences during their hospital stay, from admission to discharge.
Evidence was gathered on a wide range of issues, from hospital food and cleanliness to the care and information received.
The trust welcomed the results which had contributed to it being awarded two out of three stars in this year's national performance assessment by the Healthcare Commission.
The response from young hospital patients had been particularly pleasing, said the trust. It also welcomed the fact that children and adults had confidence in clinical staff, felt they were listened to and were treated with respect and dignity whilst in hospital.
Patients were asked how they rated the care they received and the results collated from the survey gave an index rating of 78 out of 100 from young patients and 77 out of 100 from the responses given by adult patients.
The survey highlighted the need for more information for patients, particularly about what to expect after being discharged and how to use their medication.
