An attempted rave in Silver End, which had attracted more than 100 revellers, was stopped before it had the chance to get started.

On Saturday, ravers met at Rivenhall Airfield before setting off for a disused barn in a nearby field, where the sound equipment was being set up.

But police officers talked with the organisers at 1.40am and they agreed to pack up at 2am and leave before the party had started.

Afterwards, the revellers also left the area.

This year, Essex Police have announced a zero-tolerance approach to raves.

A spokeswoman for the force said their main concern was for the safety of revellers.
