Essex Crimestoppers will be spreading crime prevention messages at the V2004 Festival in Hylands Park.

The initiative aims to encourage everyone to have a good time, free from crime, and improve awareness of the anonymous Crimestoppers scheme among young people.

The humble bin-bag is one initiative that will be at the forefront of plans to keep V an enjoyable and peaceful event for music fans.

In what will be a first for an event of this type, Crimestoppers is printing 36,000 bin-bags which will carry the banner Safe and Sound plus the charity's crime line number 0800 555 111.

The versatile bin-bags will be a key way of getting the crime prevention message across.

Inspector Dave Northcott, Crimestoppers co-ordinator said: "These bags can be used for putting rubbish in, for storing clothes and other items - or even, by putting holes in them, worn to keep the rain off!

"This, combined with the posters and banners around the site, should keep the Crimestoppers message and number very visible around Hylands Park."

Isabel Cross of Crimestoppers added: "Most people come for the great music, we don't want anyone here to spoil the festival experience, this is however a great opportunity to reach a large number of people with information on Crimestoppers."

Any individual can give information about crime on the 0800 555 111 number and won't have to give their name or details. This helps those whose personal pressures prevent them telling the police directly.
