A motorcyclist who died after a road accident in Cressing last week was on his way back from delivering a present to a friend.

Robert Batty, 37, of Barwell Way, Witham, died following a collision on Witham Road, involving his motorcycle and a Ford Fiesta car travelling in the opposite direction on Thursday just before 8pm.

An ambulance took him to Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford, suffering from a broken femur and feeling very unwell.

While at the hospital, he is thought to have suffered a heart attack and died shortly afterwards.

The female motorist, of Hertfordshire, escaped injury but was shocked.

Mr Batty's neighbour Bill Pater said he was on his way back from a good will errand for the former occupants of his home, in Barnwell Way, who he had remained good friends with.

Mr Pater said: "He kept in contact with the people who lived there. He was just delivering a box of chocolates and he was killed on his way home."

Mr Batty, originally of Kent, lived with his partner in Barwell Way for about two years, according to neighbours.

He worked for Ford in Dunton, near Basildon, as a senior materials engineer.

A second motorcyclist killed last week has also been named.

Carlo Terry, 22, of Cuckoo Way, Great Notley, died at the scene of the accident on the A120 at 8.15am on Friday.

Mr Terry's Honda motorcycle was involved in a collision with a grey Volkswagen Golf car on the Braintree to M11 stretch of the road, about half-a-mile from Stansted Airport.
