Basildon and Pitsea and Old Southendian & Southchurch were both happy with a share of the spoils under the blazing hot sun at Mopsies Park.

The old boys won the toss and saw Mark Hope hit 110 and Aaron Lucas get 57 as they reached 239-7 and declared after 52 overs.

Steve Brown (4-60) provided the biggest threat for the new towners, who saw Mark Amos (71) take the batting honours that have so often fallen to Kiran Sangani (42) this season.

Tim Dennis claimed 4-45 as Basildon fell 13 runs short of winning when they replied with 227-9 from 52 overs.

Both captains were happy that the game had been played in the sporting spirit that prevailed when they met at Soutchurch Park earlier in the season.

"We've had two outstanding games with Old Southendian this season, played in a good spirit," said Basildon skipper Paul Ayres. "It was so hot that a draw was the fair result."
